Gratton school also offers these other services:
In order to accommodate learners who live far away, or cannot commute on a daily basis, Gratton offers two boarding establishments, one for boys and one for girls.
Under the control of our hostel Mother, who is also a qualified teacher, Gratton provides a home from home on the school campus where learners can immerse themselves in the life of the school and enjoy the support of a number of staff members who live on the school property.
The hostel boarders enjoy wholesome meals and the run of the school property and their homework periods are supervised by staff members who are also available to assist them when needed.
Clubs, Sports and Culture
The school offers the following clubs:
- Choir and music
- Traditional dancing
- Table tennis
Under the leadership of our full time sports coach, assisted by other staff members, we offer the following sporting codes:
- Cross country
We believe that nothing in life is more important than the ability to communicate, and individual success is often dependent on this skill.
The Gratton community represents a rich cultural heritage that brings us together in many ways. Music, dance and song is a regular feature of Gratton life as well as drama, poetry, debating and public speaking, all with the ultimate objective of developing confidence and communication skills.
Religious, pastoral and community programmes
While Gratton is non-denominational we respect the right of all learners to practice their religions and we value and promote the core values of all religions.
But pastoral care goes further than that and, at Gratton, we encourage our staff to address the social and emotional well-being of all learners through their relationships, interventions and the learning experiences they provide.
Staying in touch with the community we live in is essential and we encourage the Gratton community to participate in community activities whenever possible. In particular our founding organization, The Zulufadder Children’s Trust (add hyperlink to www.zulufadder.org), that supports disadvantaged children in the rural areas of Zululand, is close to our hearts.
Tours and Outings
The school bus is used to safely transport learners on class tours and sporting events with additional transport hired as needed.
